I just read a social media post whose complaint was basically “Why are people supposedly safe from COVID-19 in a store when they aren’t safe going to a dentist or hair dresser…why can we go to fast food restaurants and not sit-down restaurants…why we can congregate in groups of 10 but not more… It’s basic physics, folks. In stores like Home Depot, Walmart and Target you can stay 6 feet away from people, pour hand sanitizer on the buggy before you touch it, and use the self-checkout. During a dentist’s or hairdresser’s or manicurist’s visit you will be in close contact for 20-30 minutes or more with a person who could be an asymptomatic carrier of the virus. At a fast-food restaurant you have minimal exposure to one other person when you pay for your meal and accept your food. A closed space like a church or other rooms can only hold so many people if they are spaced 6 feet apart on all sides. Some can accommodate more than 10 people properly spaced, but many cannot. That's why you are safer going to Walmart than getting your teeth cleaned or your hair cut; why you’re safer getting your food quickly while in your car than sitting in a room full of possible carriers for half an hour or more. A friend of mine went through hell with the virus several weeks ago. Now she's having heart issues and still isn't back to her happy self, yet. She's in her 30s.
Me, I'm in my 70s. I don't know about you, but I'm going to follow the guidelines and stay safe.
